Today i realised Singaporeans can add one more item to our list of pastimes-- Queueing.

I was at Isetan private sale this morning with Kaijie because i had to buy something for "Auntie Jessie". Like many kiasu Singaporeans, we arrived at 8.58am, hoping to be the one of the first to grab the items, but guess what!? There was already a beeline of at least 200 people raring to barge into the Isetan. So much for the power of a sale. It can motivate aunties to wake up early (i bet some of them woke up at 6am to make their way there!) , certainly a good excuse for working people to take half day off to do their shopping.

So, i complied a list of things Singaporeans would be sighted queueing for.

1) Sale. Need i say more? This four letters word appeal more to Singaporeans than sex

2) Free gifts. Standard answer.Singaporeans just lurvve free gifts. Surely u have queued for some free gift yourself?

3)Food. Make a trip to Tian Tian Chicken Rice or that delicious Hokkien Mee

4)Zouk. Singaporeans don't mind queueing from the the entrance of the club to the bridge behind to make some standard hand movements to the tunes of Square Room on Wednesday nights

5)Make passport. A queue in the Lavender Street will cost u a whole afternoon. And inside u thinking:" How come there are so many people passport expire/lost their IC everyday?"

6) Today Newspaper. There would be a beeline of people waiting for the arrival of the newspaper everyday. Good sign>> shows Singaporeans are anxious to know the news.

7)Singapore Pools. i almost forgot about this! The queue is especially long on Monday, Wedneday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. This is so true for those places with good Feng Shui aka places which seems to have a lot of luck. Just see the queue during the Chinese New year $10 million draw, i have a lot of respect for those folks.

8)Wedding and buy flat. U tink u own ROM is it? Singaporeans have a thing for meaningful dates like 9 Sep 1999, 14th Feb and like 20/04/2004. Hordes of people get married but and have to take queue number to sign ROM okay! Buy flat also. Not very hot these days but still the electronic queue board at HDB still looks very daunting to me.

I am sure the list is not exhaustive but i can onli managed to come up with these for the moment. Can inform me if u know of anymore instances of Singapore's queueing record. See, Singapore just love queueing. Queue Up For Singapore!
