I have been thinking doing an entry about the government for the longest time. I dun think i would want to critize our dear government here, not exactly the best place to do it. Let me pay tribute on the different names of the schemes that we have instead. The names normally tickle me, giving me some light-hearted smile (i mean laugh)

SPUR (Skills Programme for Upgrading and Resilience). The lastest one thrown out. So the name aims to spur all of us out, so we can retrain and retrain, retrain to keep our jobs

BOOST (Building On Opportunities to Strengthen Tourism. By STB. As the name suggest, the initiative aims to boost tourism over here because those ang mohs are learning the basics of how to save for a rainy day, giving Singapore and the Merlion a miss for the next few years.

CORE (Construction Re-Skilling for Employment). WDA again. For retraining skills to work in the construction industry.

PEEK (Pre-school Environmental Education Kit) NEA. Even the kids are not spared from the abbreviations. This is supposed to be a booklet to educate the kids about the environment. But PEEK and the environment. No link at all!

COMPASS (Community and Parents in Support of Schools). MOE. This programme is aimed to encourage the community and parents to work more with the school to help their children learn better. Seems like schools have their compass on how to teach the kids how to learn, need a new one from us.

GROW 2.0 Package (Growth of Education Officers, through better Recognition, Opportunities, and seeing to their Well-being). MOE. The name sounds some movie series, like Lord of the Rings 3.0. Not amused by this name and package at all. I thought their well being are already one of the best around??? Grow what? their salary?

There are actually a lot more, just throwing a few to illustrate Ah gong has to make some policies and programmes with some fun and easy to remember names. Some are rather creative, really have to give it up to our public servants for coming with some of innovative names.
